Mother’s and Children’s Hospital in Ulaanbaatar is the only hospital in all of Mongolia with a pediatric ward.
Children with life-threatening illnesses often do not survive; before Dr. Sandler introduced a new protocol for leukemia patients, every one of the approximately 30 children per year who suffered from leukemia died.
Since the DFW protocol was introduced by Dr. Sandler, about 50% of the patients survive, but the doctors & staff of Mother’s and Children’s still have a dream to build a pediatric cancer program. This is the dream that Dr. Sander, John, and Sally will be helping to realize.
Hopefully, this trip will be just the beginning of great steps for the children of MCH.
